The WHITE THEATRE Ostrava is a free artistic association that has been working with stage and paratheatrical experiments for more than 20 years.
Its initial stage project was "Dam of Eternity" based on a prose by Bohumil Hrabal. Several following premiere (e. g. "Tristan and Isolda") were marked by the style of aggressive expressive dynamic theatre, where in the arena auditorium, in an immediate contact with an audience, a play of a naked body and a metaphorical use of props was applied. "Blind Man" by Chelderode followed, then "Antigona", buffoonery "Two Cocks on a Dunghill", "Turnstiles of Death. At that time WHITE THEATRE Ostrava realized several events in the nature: "May" by Mácha and "White Dreams". Since 1988 the ensemble had worked on their own stage project "Faust". It was a free variation of an ancient theme inspired especially by a Latvian author Margers Zarinsh, an Elizabethan playwright Christopher Marlow and a French poet Paul Valéry. The performance was interesting in connection of raw naturalistic detail with expressive elements of actors´ actions, masks a la punk and uncommon work with the props.
The ensemble takes part in many theatrical events, festivals, artistic-theatrical, performances, and meeting of alternative theatres (e. g. "Next Wave" in Prague, French Street Theatre Festivals in Avignon, Chalon sur Saone, Perigueux, International Festival in Jelenia Góra - Poland and Korbach - Germany, in the AITA Festival in Hungary). The performance began Velišek´s exposition of "Skiers" in Stockholm.
